Dancing in the Streets

As a mass-transit commuter, I miss having my car stereo; the morning DJ banter, Top 40 hits, blasting the awesome dance songs and yes, even stupid local commercials. I am relegated to the iPod generation, listening to whatever pops up on the shuffle through really shitty ear buds, like the rest of the mass-transit commuters, unable to sing along at the top of our lungs. Currently I am listening to the shuffle because I like the random, eclectic awesomeness that is my shuffle list.

This morning I had the most fortunate experience during the last three blocks to work and standing in line at Starbucks. I distinctly noted the following songs in order with which they played: Me & Bobby McGee (Janis), Black Betty (Ram Jam) and What's Love Got to Do With It (Tina Turner), this caused spontaneous singing and dance-walking all the way from the bus to the office. See, I have a theory that I can make a fool out of myself in front of strangers and passersby because they'll probably never see me again. However, I usually try to maintain composure in front of friends, family and co-workers, this doesn't always happen, but at least I try.

I finally stopped singing and dance-walking (please tell me everybody knows what this is) when I reached the elevator, because that's just a little too close for comfort to be making a fool out of myself with people who see me Monday thru Friday.

Oh the joys I get from singing in my car. That is, unless I'm stuck in traffic with the windows down. Because, then it's the same effect as sitting next to people in a crowded bus. Everyone around you can hear.

Love that you dance-walked to work. Awesome.

It's how I like to start the day too. Well, that or morning sex of course.

You could download some commercials and witty DJ banter onto your iPod! Or not.

I'm just the opposite. Composure in front of strangers, singing and dance-walking in front of family and friends.

Where is the hidden camera when you want one.... damn that would have been fun to watch!

Glad you had some pep in your step and a song to groove to...

"dance-walking" I'm thinking Travolta in Saturday Night Fever.

I do this while on the treadmill. I actually PLAN to do this by picking particular songs and artists. I air guitar and air drum. It’s quite spectacular. I rock out to old school rock, AC/DC, Metallica, JOVI(!), Motley Crue, The Who, and the like.

But I never ever sing, I’m usually too out of breath.

I've even had people ask me what Im listening too. I tell them Im too usy "ROCKIN" \mm/ OUT to answer their questions.

Nice mix there. Great song selections. I do that in elevators. When people leave, I smile at them and then bust a move. Sometimes it takes all my strength not to sing. I mouth along to songs on the street so I look "special."

Dude, when your iPod gives you such a sweet mix, it's a crime not to dance walk!
I have been known to toe dance on the train.

I'm still in shock that someone in Utah rides mass transit to work! Things have really changed in the 8 years I've been gone. And Starbucks? I have to see this for myself...
